David Faulks Lecture PDF Print E-mail
Contributed by Martin Key
Wednesday, 17 October 2007
For those who did not make it here is a report on the last lecture. Thanks to Bernard Visgandis for writing up the David Faulks lecture which I was unable to attend. This report will appear in Abracadabra.
19th September 2007

David Faulks is a professional magician, and former President of Derby Magic Circle. He is known for his mentalist act but for this lecture – entitled “Commercial Magic” – David demonstrated some classic tricks, and performed them meticulously. A considerable number of tricks were performed, too many to itemise individually so I can only mention a few.

David opened the evening with a four ace routine, which was very slick and well polished. David then moved onto to Twisting the Aces and a production of the four Aces. This was followed by Ambitious Card with a card in wallet finish. David demonstrated the various card controls needed – second deal, top change, double lift, in jog, out jog, and Elmsley count, all of which he performed perfectly.

After the card tricks, he moved on to coin matrix, followed by coins through table, with a finish of a jumbo coin production, and a purse frame routine using sponge balls. This was followed by a faultless demonstration of equal/unequal ropes. His ring vanish in ring box had a very neat sleight which was not difficult, but very effective.

David is a very knowledgeable magician, and very forthcoming with the sources of his tricks. Questions asked throughout were answered very fully and any difficulties were clearly explained until the answer was understood.

A vote of thanks was given by our President, Mick McCreath.
