photo The last meeting was the close-up competition and the report which will appear in this week's Abracadabra follows. There was also a picture and brief report on last week's MagicWeek (http://www.magicweek.co.uk/).

Leamington and Warwick Magic Society
6th June 2007
As usual the annual Frank Allen Cup Close-Up Competition attracted several talented members and the skill level was high. First on was Matthew Redmond with some fascinating coin magic with amusing patter. Next we saw previous winner Alan Cooper who again amazed us with card effects, rope and ring, and bill to kiwi fruit. Alan was followed by Mark Traversoni who had some very clever card magic. After the interval society stalwart Arthur MacTier used his well-known humour to good effect with more card effects. Following on was Martin Key with Chop Cup, Stargazer and translocation of £20 note from bill tube to lemon. Stephen Buxton then amazed with disappearing handkerchief, various effects using large coloured elastic hoops, and some card effects. The final performer was newest member Jonathan Lovett who showed that he had been putting in a few hours of practice with some amazing card illusions all done to very funny patter.

Magic judges Alan Lissaman and Ian Milton plus a lay judge had difficulty in working out the winners with only 1 point between first and second and 2 more points between second and third, In the event Jonathan Lovett was announced the winner with Alan Cooper second and Mark Traversoni third. Everyone agreed that it had been a very enjoyable evening.
