The first meeting of the year is traditionally our auction when many bargains are to be had.
As in previous years Arthur MacTier was our auctioneer, doing the job with his usual humour and panache - even serenading us with a humorous song at the start and the end of the auction. An additional treat this year were a number of Billy Wells items donated by his widow Betty and a number of items (mainly from the Ken Brooke stable) given by Tom Moore's widow. Items of interest which came under the hammer were a one-man bullet catch effect, a Morissey coin pail, David Howarth's brilliant "Absolutely Impossible", two rabbit productions, a large snake and a large collection of brand new Marvin's Magic Classic Collection effects. A number of well-known magicians were in the audience, some of whom had travelled quite a distance to attend.
Over £100 was raised to boost the society's coffers which was much appreciated. |
