Some of you may not know that his new show (Something Wicked This Way Comes) is on tour round the UK until the end of May, culminating in a run at the Cambridge Theatre in London throughout June 2005. Firstly let me say, go and see this show. Without doubt, without reservation, you will be royally entertained, amused and bemused by a man who is at the peak of his powers. The show was in two halves. The first half, contained a series experiments and happenings mainly using members of the audience, all deliberately and demonstrably chosen at random. Some of the ‘effects’ may be familiar to a magician, while others not so, but what you will see is Derren Brown at his best, on stage and the centre of attention. Derren was quick witted, sharp and precise and at times the women sitting next to me actually gasped out loud at the effects of mind reading and hypnosis. The second half of the show was something a little different. Some of the content of the second half you will never see on TV shows because it is interesting! But with Derren, the man who raised more TV complaints with a his Russian Roulette than in the history of TV, there are clearly very few barriers he is not prepared to cross one way or another! What I’m not going to do is describe the things I saw in detail. Some will certainly be different in subsequent shows anyway. I will say this, as an ‘experience’ it was second to none. He held the audience in the palm of his hand for nearly 3 hours and as the audience left, people were excited and talking wildly of the things they had seen. So don’t take my word for it-take theirs! Go and see the show, you wont be disappointed, it was one of the best nights out we’ve had in a long time!
